First on the list was a reward for Ella for her good grades. I asked her to think of something she really wanted. Of all the potential rewards in the world, Ella said she wanted to go to the bookstore and pick out any book she wanted. A girl after my own heart. Now it could be that she picked a new book because she had just finished reading one in the car that morning and (much like her mother) doesn't like to be without a new book to read. She just finished an Encyclopedia Brown mystery which makes me very happy because I used to read those like crazy when I was a kid :)
So we went to Barnes and Noble and she picked the one that had the girliest pink sparkly cover she could find. It is about mermaids called, Whatever After Sink or Swim. She is about halfway through it now and says it is "awesome!" But she always says that :)
After the bookstore we went home to play with Bauer and enjoy the sunshine. It was the first day that felt like it could be summer. I mean, it was 65 and we were all hot! We had to stop at Target and buy shorts and sunscreen!
After some time playing in the sunshine with the dog the girls said they wanted to go to the beach like last year on the first day of summer. So we did! It was beautifully warm and sunny and the girls had pale ghost legs and it was awesome!

Even if it doesn't totally look like summer yet - notice the trees are still totally bare and we found a few patches of snow along the beach - the girls were totally right, it was the perfect way to kick off summer vacation!!!
