Iditarod and Fur Rondy

This past weekend the girls and I went with Ama and Papa to the Iditarod start and to enjoy some Fur Rondy fun.

The girls loved to watch the "puppies" run by and we cheered for every team that passed us. Ella cheered especially loud for the few teams that featured pink - in a coat, or sled cover or most excitedly, dog booties! Ella occupied the waiting time by sliding down a hill, throwing snowballs and generally playing and having fun.

Avery on the other hand, isn't really a fan of snow. She doesn't like to stand on it, or especially walk on it. She would prefer if someone would carry her when we venture outside. This is what happened when I tried to get her to walk about two feet across flat and non-slippery snow. What a silly kid!

After standing outside in the cold for so long, we were all ready to warm up with some hot chocolate so we stopped at Starbucks before we headed outside for more fun!

Then we went to look at the snow sculptures. Unfortunately the sun had not been kind to them, but it was still fun. It was getting close to naptime and some people were less cheerful than they could have been. So I couldn't resist getting a picture of my crabby kids with a giant crab :)

It is hard to tell in the picture but Ella's participation was not voluntary. She was only slightly more willing to get a picture with Papa in front of the mammoth.

After the snow sculptures we went to the old train station and looked at some seriously elaborate miniature train set ups. No pictures though, everyone was occupied trying to keep Ella and Avery in compliance with the "No Touching" rule. Then we went home for a nap.

It was a really fun day. We have not done anything really for the past few weeks - hence the lack of blog posts - so it was nice to get out of the house and enjoy the nice weather!
